Email Jacinta Allan to stop Victoria's fake party scams decieving voters
Email Jacinta Allan – Stop Victoria's fake party rort You've probably heard about Avi Yemini's "Free Palestine" party – registered to attract votes from progressive and multicultural communities, then funnel preferences straight to One Nation. Now anti-lockdown campaigner Monica Smit has done the same thing under "Climate Action Now."
The Victorian Electoral Commission says it has no power to stop either of them.
Victoria is the last state in Australia where this is still legal. A candidate can buy a seat in the upper house for around $55,000 – winning on less than 1% of the primary vote, through backroom deals that voters never see and never agreed to. In 2018, 20% of Victoria's upper house was elected this way.
There's a fix. The Victorian Electoral Commission has confirmed it can implement changes in time for November – if legislation passes by August. Parliament returns on 28 July. That's the last sitting week before the deadline.
Premier Jacinta Allan needs to introduce and pass a government bill. She has one sitting week.
Email her now and tell her to act.
